INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

MARCH 8, GERMANY/EUROPE-WIDE

The first International Women’s Day took place in 1911 and has been celebrated around the world since to pay tribute to women and their achievements. Except in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, it is not an official holiday in Germany, but various events, such as giving flowers to women, concerts or gatherings take place around the country.

PALZ PEPPER CONCERT

MARCH 9, 6 P.M., FRIEDENSKIRCHE, KURT-SCHUMACHER-STR. 56, KAISERSLAUTERN

PALZ PEPPER is an all-women’s choir that performs in a cappella and barbershop style. The choir has inspired its audiences for 35 years and is well-known beyond the region. This special concert is in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8 and addresses sisters, brothers, girls, women and people around the world. Don’t miss out on love keeping us together!

ABTEIKIRCHENKONZERT (ABBEY CHURCH CONCERT)

MARCH 10, 5 P.M., ABTEIKIRCHE, OTTERBERG

String quintet “Subito”- with concert master Laurentiu Candea and solo artists Sigrun Haaser and Barbara Buffy will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria in D, RV 589 and Josef Haydn’s “The seventh last words of our savior.”

FRÜHLINGSERWACHEN (SPRING COMES TO LIFE)

MARCH 10, 1 P.M., CITY CENTER, KIRCHHEIMBOLANDEN

The market invites visitors to shop on Sunday, welcome the first colors of spring and enjoy a coffee in rays of sunshine. A creative market with handmade goods will take place in the historic district and children are invited to the bouncy castle and a carousel.

FRÜHLINGSMARKT “LAUTERN BLÜHT AUF”

MARCH 16-17, 2–7 P.M., CITY CENTER, KAISERSLAUTERN

Visit a colorful spring market with shops offering special spring deals, marching bands, old-timer displays and much more in the pedestrian area and squares. Shops will be open on Sunday, so get into the mood and spring into spring!

DISCOVERY TOUR IN ENGLISH

MARCH 16, 11.15 A.M., CASIMIR SAAL (CITY HALL), KAISERSLAUTERN

The guided tour includes a visit inside the Casimir Saal, located just below the City Hall. It is approximately 1.5 hours and leads through the underground illuminated tunnel with information and sound effects about the history of Kaiserslautern. The meeting point is the Tourist Information Office, next to Fruchthalle. Further dates: Apr. 6, May 5, June 8. HINKELSTEIN HIKING MARATHON/TRAIL

MARCH 24, 7.30/8/9 A.M., ABTEIKIRCHE, OTTERBERG

With the first rays of spring sunshine, ambitious hikers and trail running fans can put their athletic skills to the test and look forward to an exciting outdoor event at the “8th Hinkelstein Hiking Marathon/Trail”.

In the immediate vicinity of the imposing abbey church, with the start and finish point at the town hall in Otterberg, the varied route follows the certified Hinkelstein Trail. In addition to natural forest paths and passages across open fields, past historic boundary stones, menhirs and idyllic ponds, the trail offers attractive landscapes and breathtaking views, including the Donnersberg nearby. The start times are 7:30-8 a.m. for the marathon, 8-9 a.m. for the half marathon and 9-9.30 a.m. for the trail. Be there! Take up the challenge of the 8th Hinkelstein hiking marathon/trail and checkpoints along the way for all participants. For information, contact tourist-info@otterbach-otterberg.de

FRÜHLINGSFEST (SPRING FEST)

MARCH 24, 1–5 P.M., TOWN CENTER, WINNWEILER

Winnweiler will host a colorful spring fest with music, crepes, sweets and snacks, fresh oven baked bread and refreshments. There will be a Zumba performance, a trampoline, a balloon artist, games for kids and face painting. Shops will be open and the fest offers fun for all.

MAINZER RHEINFRÜHLING (SPRING FAIR)

MARCH 23–APR. 7, RHEINUFER FROM KAISERTOR TO KURFÜRSTENBRUNNEN, MAINZ

Take a trip to Rheinland Pfalz’s capital, enjoy the cathedral, visit ancient museums, charming old town, stroll over the colorful produce and flower market on weekends and round off your visit at the Spring Fair along the Rhein River. There will be lots of exciting rides, drinks and bites, a haunted mansion and a virtual reality movie theater. Or, enjoy a ride on the ferris wheel with a magnificent view over the 2,000 year old city. The fair will be open for two weeks, with the exception of Good Friday (March 29). JAPANESE GARDEN

UNTIL OCT 31., LAUTERSTRASSE, KAISERSLAUTERN

The garden IS open for visitors during daylight hours. Special events such as the “Day of Green” May 4, “Children’s Day” May 5 with the reading of a children’s book are on the schedule. The garden will also participate in the “Lange Nacht der Kultur” (Long light of Culture) June 22 and “Japan Classics” Aug. 18. Dates for the tea ceremonies and yoga classes to be announced soon.
