US military participates in state fair June 26 to 28

The annual Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair will take place June 26 to 28 in Ramstein-Miesenbach. Cities and union communities of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz, charity organizations as well as military forces will participate in the fair to demonstrate who they are and what they have to offer.

“The three-day event features a varied and attractive program for young and old,” said Astrid Kleemann from the Window to Rheinland-Pfalz information counter in the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center. “Entertaining programs with live music, dance performances, presentations and displays will be offered on 11 stages and in activity areas in the center of Ramstein.”

The market of cities and counties on Spesbacher and Landstuhler Strasse will reflect the diversity of the communities in Rheinland-Pfalz. It will display offers for tourists, traditional craftsmanship and culinary specialties from the different regions.

“This is a special year for Ramstein-Miesenbach since we are not only hosting the state fair, but we are also celebrating our 800th anniversary,” said Ludwig Linsmayer, deputy mayor of Ramstein-Miesenbach. “We are proud to be able to organize this event and expect many international guests including our American neighbors.”

German and U.S. military members will present their work and display equipment in a camp set up in Reichswald stadium.

The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army are both expected to provide fair goers with several displays and demonstrations to enhance the German public’s understanding of the U.S. Armed Forces and the installation’s mission.

Traditionally, the minister president will sponsor a military youth reception for selected Soldiers and Airmen and members of the German Bundeswehr.

The Ambassadors, a jazz ensemble from the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band will take part in the fest parade starting at 1 p.m. June 28 and present a concert from 6 to 7:30 p.m. later that day. The U.S. Army Europe Band will also perform in the parade.

“The big festival parade with more than 2,500 participants will be one of the highlights,” said Kleemann. “Every community will take part with a float, band or walking group. Ramstein-Miesenbach’s colorful float will present landmarks of the city such as the tower of St. Nikolaus Church and the lion from the coat of arms.”

A farmers and organic market will be set up on Schernauer Strasse with more than 30 farmers and vendors presenting their products, which visitors can taste.

Rescue and relief services such as federal and state police, Red Cross, firefighters and customs can be found at the Edeka parking lot.

Sports and games to include soccer, golfing, Nordic walking, chess, bungee-running, jumping and tennis can be found on the sports field in Reichswald stadium.

The entertaining programs on the stages with various bands, singers and disc jockeys will begin at 2 p.m. June 26 and 11 a.m. June 27 and 28.

The Deutsche Bahn railroad company will offer additional trains and busses throughout the weekend. Trains will take passengers to Kaiserslautern, Homburg and Kusel after 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. June 27 and 28. The regional bus lines 141, 142, 143, 145 and 153 take visitors from Kaiserslautern, Miesau, Landstuhl, Schopp and Reichenbach to the state fair and back. The busses will run on June 26 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., on June 27 from10 a.m. to 1 a.m. and on June 28 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.. Tickets will be available on the bus, at the ticket machines or in the Reisezentrum (travel center) at the Kaiserslautern train station.

The next Rheinland-Pfalz State Fair will take place June 3 to 5, 2016 in Alzey.
