V Corps defeats LRMC, 75-70, earns 26th ASG unit-level title

***image1***HEIDELBERG – Headquarters, Headquarters Company, V Corps of Heidelberg completed a perfect season by defeating Landstuhl Regional Medical Center 75-70 for the unit-level title of the 26th Area Support Group Sunday at Patton gym here.
V Corps had downed Landstuhl Saturday, too, 67-63, at Tompkins gym in nearby Schwetzingen.

Danny Jones of V Corps had 24 points to lead his team. V Corps coach Angel Acevedo called Jones the team’s “big-time” player, referring to his high point totals and the two community level championships the 36-year-old Jones has helped Heidelberg win. Jones and his family are on their second tour of Heidelberg, and leave in May.

Landstuhl was led by Frank Head, who scored a game-high 25 points, 17 of them in the second half.

No MVP was named for the tournament.
“We played our hearts out,” said Landstuhl coach Richard “Wes” Breeding. “They just outplayed us.”

Both teams advance to the Installation Management Activity, Europe Championships March 3 to 6 in Würzburg.

The V Corps path to the title: On Feb. 25, the Heidelberg team defeated the 109th Transportation Company of Mannheim, 92-46, then downed 21st Theater Support Command, 84-61, before meeting LRMC for the first time on Saturday.

LRMC won its first game 69-59 Friday, then edged Headquarters, Headquarters Detachment 95th Military Police Battalion of Mannheim that day before its two losses to V Corps.
