After more than two years of renovations, the Vogelweh Child Development Center has had upgrading to its carpeting, flooring, wall panels, fire-suppression system and more, creating a better quality of life for the children at their home away from home.

“The renovations not only gave a much needed facelift for a more modern CDC, but the facility now meets all current (health) codes, ensuring the children’s safety in the facility,” said Shaquita Ponder, 86th Force Support Squadron CDC program manager. “The newly constructed wall allows for two classrooms to be utilized versus one, adding an additional toddler classroom to the facility.”

The CDC is available to assist Department of Defense, military and civilian personnel in balancing the competing demands of the accomplishment of the DOD mission and family life by managing and delivering a system of quality.

“It is critical that parents are able to complete their mission daily with comfort in knowing that their
children are in programs that are of high quality,” Ponder said.

While the Vogelweh CDC was being renovated, those children were sent to Ramstein’s CDC. Now that the new building at Vogelweh has opened, it freed up more space at Ramstein’s CDC as well.

“With the KMC being one of the largest military populated areas, child care spaces are and will continue to be a challenge. This project was part of an emergency intervention construction project to update some of our facilities and increase the number of spaces that we’ll be able to offer to the community,” Ponder said.

The Vogelweh CDC can have approximately 448 children in attendance that range anywhere from 6 weeks to 5 years in age. With few spots available at any given time, parents should make sure they can register their children at the soonest possible time.

If you are looking to have your child/children attend either the Ramstein or Vogelweh CDC, there are a few ways of going about that.
