Winnweiler celebrates with medieval market

To celebrate its 1125th anniversary, Winnweiler will sponsor a medieval market today, Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors will be taken on a journey to the past. More than 30 merchants and 20 medieval groups will display medieval life in their camps. Craftsmen such as stone masons, broom makers and beer brewers show off their skills.

The entertaining program will include knights fights, jugglers and musicans’ presentations. A fire show is scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday.

Children can enjoy playing on a Viking ship and turn into a knight with medieval face painting.

The medieval market in Winnweiler will start at 6 p.m. today, noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. It is set up on Jakobstrasse. Parking spaces are located within walking distance.

Today, admission is free. A one-day ticket for Saturday or Sunday costs €5, and the two-day ticket costs €8. Families pay €12 for a day pass. The family weekend ticket is €20.

Visitors dressed in medieval clothing will be allowed to pass the gates for €3. Children up to the size of a sword get admitted for free.
