The program, called Wounded Warrior, is sponsored by spouse groups in the 86th Operations Group and occurs every Tuesday throughout the year.

“I felt so honored to offer this service to those who have served us,” said Paige Norris-Miller, 37th Airlift Squadron spouse, who delivered cupcakes and decorated sugar cookies with the Wounded Warrior program Dec. 11 on Ramstein. “Just having the chance to look into the eyes of a wounded man or woman and say ‘thank you for your service’ and see them smile was very rewarding to me.”

The program is one of many in the KMC that supports injured troops transiting the area or being treated at Landstuhl Medical Regional Center. The 435th Aerospace Medical Squadron’s Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility has supported the movement and care of more than 28,000 patients over the past two years at Ramstein.

Stacy Uselman, wife of Lt. Col. David Uselman, 86th Operations Group deputy commander, has participated in the Wounded Warrior program several times. She said it is about more than just delivering cookies; it is about talking to heroes about their experiences. She is always surprised by their dedication.

Although the troops are happy to go home to the U.S., they are torn because their units are still deployed and they don’t want to leave them behind, she said.

One thing is for sure, the injured servicemembers, flight crew and aeromedical evacuation personnel have the treat of home-baked cookies each and every Tuesday because of the Wounded Warrior program.
