KMC Youth Sports created KMC Kids In Developmental Sports, a developmentally appropriate sports program for children ages 5 to 15 with special needs, with support from the Exceptional Family Member Program.

KMC K.I.D.S. is a new program and unique to the KMC because no other Air Force base offers a program that provides families with special needs  a way to play and learn sports together.

The family support function of the Exceptional Family Member Program is designed to provide support to military family members with special needs, in the form of information and referrals, support groups and recreational events.

“The KMC K.I.D.S. program is designed to provide another opportunity for children with special needs not playing in the mainstream sports program to come out and have some fun,” said Paula Scott, KMC K.I.D.S. program coordinator.

KMC K.I.D.S. kicked off with a successful soccer season and was developed to be informative and fun, so parents and children with special needs will have a positive sports and fitness experience. Parent participation is mandatory at each session.
This program is open to any ID cardholder whose child has special needs.  In the spring, KMC K.I.D.S will have a baseball program concurrent with the youth sports spring baseball season.

“The KMC K.I.D.S. sports program is a great way for children and parents to play and develop skills together in a non-competitive environment,” said Nancy Hoehn, EFMP-FS coordinator.

Ramstein EFMP-FS will be bridging the KMC K.I.D.S. fall and spring sports programs with an adaptive arts and crafts program over the winter at the Ramstein Arts and Crafts Center. For its first project, families with will work together to create their own unique keep-sake Christmas ornaments in two after-school sessions Nov. 29 and Dec. 6.
