Staff Sgt. Schmidt reads to kindergarteners.

Soldiers from Baumholder’s 16th Sustainment Brigade read Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport to all grade levels and taught about Martin Luther King Jr. at the Smith Elementary School Library. The goal was to share with students Dr. King’s legacy and how the military honored him by having a “Day On” for Jan. 15, instead of a day off. In reading the book and discussing Dr. King’s legacy, soldiers have inspired students to work together, using words and kindness, to improve our community.
