The 1st Battalion, 405th Army Field Support Brigade welcomed a new commander when Lt. Col. Joe Gann took command from Lt. Col. James Kennedy on Aug. 4 during a change of command ceremony at the Kaiserslautern Community Activities Center.

During the ceremony, Col. John Haley, commander of the 405th AFSB, commended Kennedy for his accomplishments during his command.

“Jim Kennedy is exactly the type of officer I want on my team,” Haley said. “He is intelligent, aggressive and certainly willing to speak his mind. He has provided great leadership to his unit.”

Gann echoed Haley’s comments, saying Kennedy, “left the battalion in a great place,” and Gann promised to lead the battalion forward in the same manner.
“I am looking forward to commanding this great battalion, and I promise to give you 100 percent every day,” Gann said.

Gann comes to the brigade from Headquarters, U.S. Forces Japan, where he served as the branch chief for the J43 exercise and plans branch.

Kennedy’s next assignment will be at Headquarters, U.S. Army Europe G-4 in Heidelberg.
