This year’s ceremony was hosted by the 86th CES fire department, 86th Medical Group and the 86th Security Forces Squadron. Ramstein’s first responders save lives every day as did those who responded to the events on Sept. 11, 2001. Wednesday’s retreat paid homage to those who gave their lives so that others may live.

Reflect on Constitution, citizenship, 9/11

On Wednesday, it was 4,384 days since the terror attacks of 9/11 in New York, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa. It has also been 365 days since the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. In both cases, our national response involved using military action.

I stared at the email in my inbox with a slight mix of curiosity and alarm. I read the message again, this time aloud. Yep, I had been tasked. The email was sent to inform me that I would be serving as my unit’s designated Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas representative for this year. I wondered how much extra time this was going to take from my work schedule and most importantly, what exactly does a CFC-O rep actually do?

Soldier builds international partnership through soccer

During the duty day at Operation Immediate Response, he can be found issuing water, in-processing personnel or even passing out laundry bundles to U.S. Soldiers and service members from the Balkan region of Europe. In the evening, when the computers are powered down and the exercise is on pause, he builds international bonds by engaging in a European pastime — soccer.
