Phillip Cuccerre, 86th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron support section NCOIC, holds a window from “Pink Lady,” a B-24 Liberator that was shot down over Friedrichshafen, Germany, during World War II. Cuccerre picked up the window from Karl H. Matt, whose grandfather gathered the battle-damaged armoured glass from the debris 70 years ago. The bomber was piloted by Bruce Sooy, who, along with his crew, completed 22 missions over Europe before being shot down by Luftwaffe fighters. This piece of history was flown back to the U.S. and will be displayed in the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
