Bryan Osborne, 86th Airlift Wing Equal Opportunity director and member of the Ramstein military motorcycle club, gazes upon the rows of graves of deceased war veterans Nov. 11 at the Lorraine American Cemetery in St. Avold, France. Veterans Day is observed annually on Nov. 11 and commemorates military veterans who currently serve or have served the U.S. armed forces, including those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. According to the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, since World War I approximately 624,000 U.S. service members have been killed in action, battling in wars and conflicts. The Lorraine American Cemetery contains the buried remains of over 10,000 of them. It is the largest burial site of U.S. service members in Europe.

In a ceremony described as a re-designation, reassignment and reorganization all in one, the 2nd Air Postal Squadron on Ramstein left the 86th Mission Support Group and joined Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe Nov. 9.

Construction on new traffic circle begins this month

A new traffic junction will be constructed beginning Nov. 28 outside the Ramstein East Gate. The new junction, described as a turbo circle, is a State Authority for Mobility — also referred to as LBM — project designed to meet future traffic needs.

Kaiserslautern students play chess while dressed in costumes at a pre-Halloween chess tournament Oct. 29 at Kaiserslautern Elementary School. Over 70 students in costume participated in the round-robin, freaky-fun format. After the tournament, the six best costumes were awarded followed by a dance party with flashlights.
