BAMBERG, Germany — The 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s 18th Engineer Brigade 370th Sapper Company cased its colors recently here in preparation for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

The 370th Sapper Company previously deployed to Logar Province, Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011. “They know their training and know it well. I can’t say how proud I am of them,” said Lt. Col. Thomas Austin, commander of the 54th Engineer Battalion and native of Shelby, Mich. “They are going forward into danger, so others don’t have to. “As they must leave their families behind, it is now time to turn to their military families as they prepare for combat operations in Afghanistan,” said Austin. Capt. Craig Miller has commanded the 370th Sapper Company since June of last year and expressed how all of the back-to-back training events have prepared his company for success in Afghanistan.

“I look forward to standing with you all when we unveil that guidon,” said Miller. The 370th Sapper Company will deploy to Afghanistan to continue their route clearance mission while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In preparation for this deployment, the company had three field training exercises including a rotation at Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany.
