***image1***Although the 38th Construction and Training Squadron has traveled around Europe constructing hundreds of projects, it was not until December of 2005 that the squadron’s project list took them to Romania.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe have initiated weapons training deployments to exercise U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft within Romania and with other allies in the Black Sea region. Exercise locations will include flight operations conducted from Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, and training at air-to-ground ranges in Babadag, Malina and Cincu.

“Romania is a fellow NATO member, a strategic partner and has provided us wonderful access to its facilities, ranges and airspace,” said Maj. David Simpson, USAFE chief of transformation and integration.

Through site visits that started in December of 2005, the 38th CTS has been assigned to execute multiple projects including runway repair, as well as construction of a fire station and a maintenance supply facility, said Capt. Teresa Lord, 38th CTS chief of engineering flight.

The three 38th CTS projects, which will require 24 38th CTS members, will be constructed during the 2006 fiscal year, said Captain Lord.
While construction occurs, preparations are underway for a 52nd Fighter Wing deployment of F-16 Falcons in August.

“This is but an extension of the warm and cooperative relationship that has continued to develop for some time,” said Major Simpson.  “We look forward to increased training and exercises in the future.”
