Turkey Trot 2021: 5K for Turkey Day

Jared Tomberlin, member of Ramstein Air Base, participates in the Turkey Trot 5K at Ramstein Air Base, Nov. 19. Tomberlin and others participated in the 2021 Turkey Trot to start Thanksgiving off in a healthy way and meet new people in the process.

The 86th Force Support Squadron hosted the 2021 Turkey Trot 5k at Ramstein Air Base, Nov. 19.

Runners ran a 5K to kick-off Thanksgiving celebrations and were entered in a raffle to win Turkeys, gift cards and gift baskets. They also received prizes based on placement and holiday attire.

“We hosted the event because it’s a great way to get people together,” Savannah Pentek, 86 FSS recreational assistant, said. “This is the first event we have held since the beginning of the pandemic. It is is so great to see everyone out here to have a good time.”

Some participants dressed up in Thanksgiving related attire like hats, shirts and accessories for the event. One of the runners said it was a great way to put themselves out there and have a good time all in one event.

“I got here pretty recently and I heard some of the people in my unit were participating,” Senior Master Sgt. Jeff Huot, 86th Healthcare Operations Squadron senior enlisted leader, said. “I figured it was a good way to network and meet some of the people from my unit. I find events like these are one of the best ways to get acclimated to a new assignment and bring in the holiday season.”

For Pentek it is all about people. She expressed how happy she was to see so many participants come out and make new friends along the way.

“Holidays can be a stressful time,” Pentek said. “A lot of people are away from their families so it is good to see people trying become part of the Air Force family. This is what it is all about.”
