Kaiserslautern sponsors its annual Long Night of Culture Saturday and Sunday. The event will feature more than 80 performances, presentations and displays in 15 locations in the center of town, gardens and churches: Fruchthalle, Emmerich-Smola Music School, St. Martin’s Church, Stiftskirche, Hoffnungskirche, Theodor-Zink Museum, Pfalztheater, Pfalzgalerie Museum, Youth Center, Architekturgalerie, Cafe 23, Galerie Wack, Kultur.Kolletiv e.V., Japanese Garden and Union-Studio for film arts.

Interested visitors can walk from one event to another. Most events are kept short and visitors can put together their own individual program.

A family program with classic and jazz starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Fruchthalle. The late night program with DJ-lounge, salsa live music disco and more than 50 presentations on three stages in the concert hall takes place from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.  Emphasis will be on new regional musical productions, including Irish music, tango songs and gypsy swing. Pianist Gerd Schumann from Köln will play jazz; Ludger Brummer presents “Move,” a concert for piano and computer; and ballet dancer Adonis Daukaev from the Pfalztheater will perform a motion capturing dance.

The motto of the Emmerich-Smola Music School for the Long Night of Culture is “jazz, jazz and more jazz.” Various school bands will be performing. Interested players can join sessions at 10 p.m. and midnight.

The Pfalzgalerie Museum on Museumsplatz 1 will host the ensemble Present Art Collection playing “Delicious Music – Unplugged at its best” with swing, bossa nova and pop at 8 and 10 p.m. Children can take part in arts activities from 8 to 10 p.m.

The Pfalztheater will offer a dance around the world with ballerina Felicity Harder at 8 p.m. Kultur.Kolletiv e.V. will put up an arts installation called “urban biwak” in front of the Pfalztheater.

The Japanese Garden will be illuminated and open for free from 7 p.m. to midnight. Interested visitors can enjoy sound meditations in the teahouse.

Stiftskirche will open a room of silence, lit with candles, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

St. Martin’s Church on Steinstrasse will also present three free concerts at 8, 9:30 and 11 p.m.

The Theodor-Zink Museum on Steinstrasse 48 will serve food specialties and drinks in its courtyard. Pianist Jens Barnieck and the director of the Atlantic Academy Dr. Werner Kremp will present their pictures of America. Admission fee for most places is €7 for adults and €5 for students. Visitors get a wristband, which allows them to enter all facilities that charge a fee.
