Action Line

My wife is a DODDS employee with a DODDS parking permit. Due to the new way they have the buses routed this year she has had problems with parking. Since they close the roads down, where are the teachers supposed to park? Due to all the construction on the parking lot beside the Auto Pride, this means that she would have to park a very long distance away. In cold temperatures this is not safe for her, but also my son who she brings with her. Why are the MPs not briefed since there have been many stories of parking behind the MP building that also leads to the church parking lot. As temperatures drop and roads get worse my concern is their safety and since she is entitled to park over there, what can be done?

Thanks for expressing your concern about access to Vogelweh schools and limited parking areas during the times we marshal school busses. We modified our school bus marshalling routes to better protect our school children. The objective was to establish an area inside our installation that could be isolated from potential acts of terrorism and unsafe conditions.

To do this, we stop traffic flow along the line of busses on Kansas Street and this limits access to parents dropping off children to some parts of our KMC schools. We offer these options for your wife’s and/or your use for gaining access in the future:

DODDS employees with the proper vehicle placards can enter Kansas Street from Kapaun and access the teacher’s parking area in front of the school. However, school buses can never be passed on Kansas Street.

Newly paved parking across the street from the chapel has now re-opened for parents’ use in bringing children to school.

Parents can park at the top of Kapaun and walk their children to school a short distance down the street.

Parents can also enter 2nd Avenue and let their children off just behind the school complex entrance at Bldg. 2727 beside the B-270 walk-over bridge.

There is also parking available to teachers in the lot at the Auto Tech Classroom, Bldg. 2074, off Kansas Street across from the Kaiserslautern Middle School.
