The Atlantic Academy Kaiserslautern celebrated its 10th anniversary Wednesday. Ten years ago, on George Washington’s Birthday, Kurt Beck, minister president of Rheinland-Pfalz, officially opened its doors.

The academy’s goal is to promote transatlantic understanding with seminars, workshops, lectures, musical performances and discussions. It wants to create an understanding for a political and cultural solidarity between nations of the North Atlantic alliance. Germans and Americans learn about the other nation’s politics, society and culture.

“The work of the Atlantic Academy helps to intensify the relationship between citizens of our country and those in the United States,” said minister president Beck in the introduction of the anniversary brochure.
