Beauty is … the Reflections program at LEMS

What is beauty? More than 180 students at Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School presented their idea of the concept at this week’s Reflections Cultural Arts Fair. The theme, “Beauty is …” was interpreted in many different ways.

“It’s so exciting to see such wonderful work from our student body. They really took the topic and worked with it,” said PTSA co-chair Melissa Gallagher.

The Reflections program is sponsored by the Landstuhl PTSA and this year marks the 20th anniversary since its inception at the school. Reflections is a celebration of the many talents of the students. Students can enter in any of six different categories: literature, visual arts, photography, musical composition, dance choreography and film production. This year’s theme, “Beauty is …” allowed the students unlimited opportunities for presenting their work.

“I thought the quality and presentation were especially good this year,” said retired teacher and judge Karen KanterJudge Carol Moldenhauer added that she was particularly “impressed with the video and music presentations.”

The top entry in each category will move on to further competition in the Europe-wide program.

Additionally, student prizes at each of the categories include Army and Air Force Exchange Service gift certificates. LEMS has a proud history of many students being recognized yearly at the regional level.
