Soldiers from the 21st Theater Support Command played multiple roles at the U.S. Army in Europe Land Combat Expo in Heidelberg, which ended Thursday. Although the three-day event was hosted by the U.S. Army, Europe and co-sponsored by the European Department of the Association of the U.S. Army, the 21st TSC, made its presence known.

“For the 21st TSC, the emphasis was on showcasing that it is the logistics provider of choice – the preferred provider to deal with,” said Chief Warrant Officer Quitman Jackson, Senior Airdrop Systems Technician, Supply and Maintenance Directorate, Support Operations, 21st TSC.

The 21st TSC’s 37th Transportation Command had been tasked with moving all the equipment the Army’s V Corps could not move, from the units’ locations to Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg.

Additionally, the 21st TSC provided its own equipment for the outdoor display, including a containerized kitchen and the new model line haul tractor with trailer. The General Support Center, Europe, demonstrated the repair process for a damaged high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle, while the Maintenance Center Pirmasens illustrated repair procedures for electronics.

“GSC-E’s display was designed to show our mission and capacity. It is extremely important to show our customers who we are and what we can do for them. That was also the reason for our large presence at the expo,” said Mr. Helmut Haufe, General Manager at the GSC-E.

“The underlying concept for our Command’s display and for the subordinate units’ displays was that they demonstrate the things logisticians do that bring value. In other words, anything that is routine for logisticians that would get the combat arms guys to say, ‘Oh, that’s how you all do that, or get that.’” Chief Jackson said.

During the four years it has been in existence, the LCE has become USAREUR’s primary professional development event.
On average, 200 members of the 21st TSC were bussed to Patrick Henry Village to attend the expo all three days.

“There is no limit to who can benefit from attending the LCE because of its wide scope of events and seminars,” Chief Jackson said. Soldiers, leader, civilians and family members of the 21st TSC attended the professional development seminars, visited the historical displays, the equipment and technology displays and obtained information on community services.
