I live in Vogelweh housing close to the Fourth Avenue gate. Down our street, there have been fences put up on the side opposite of the occupied buildings. I was told that the unoccupied buildings would be demolished or renovated but I am unclear on that. What I, and many others, have a problem with is not only the fact that our road has become a one-way street, but how is life going to be for us when the real noise starts to hit? There is an entire stretch of buildings on the east side of Vogelweh where no one has lived in months, yet nothing has been done to them. What sense does it make to make lives more difficult especially for those who work nights and sleep during the day? My question is why us first?
Response:
We are undertaking one of the largest housing replacement programs in the Air Force in an effort to improve housing opportunities for the KMC. The program will demolish stairwell apartment buildings and replace them with three and four bedroom townhouses.
The townhouses will have a one car garage, patio and fenced yard. Due to the magnitude of this project there are very few areas in Military Family Housing that will not be affected by this program. The strategy for housing replacement is to replace the worst houses first and you happen to live across the street from some of the worst housing.
Most of the housing in Vogelweh that has not been recently renovated will be demolished in the next year. Please work with your building manager or the construction management office at 480-2526 or 06371-47-2526 to resolve any specific problems.
We are taking many precautions to minimize the impact on you and your neighbors, but due to the nature of construction, you will experience some inconveniences.
