Commander’s Action Line

Col. Don

Q: I am fortunate enough to live in the new housing on Ramstein. About a month and a half ago, I noticed that one street light in front of my unit was
inoperable. Now there are several on the street that don’t work.

I’ve called the Civil Engineer Hotline and I have been referred to several different agencies of which nobody has fixed the problem. So now we have four parties involved with nothing fixed and I am still in the dark.

A: I regret to learn that you were asked to contact more than one agency on this issue and want you to know that I appreciate the
feedback. The 735th Civil Engineer Squadron electrical shop tells me that the broken lights are a warranty issue and that they have contacted LBB, our host-nation
construction agent. It appears as if the contractor made some adjustments to shut off every other light late at night to save energy. This alteration has caused fuses in the circuit to fail.

But that doesn’t address the reason for your call – the fact that you are in the dark, a safety issue. Please note that this matter now has CE leadership attention and we are striving to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

The Commander’s Action Line gives KMC members a direct link to wing leadership. The action line is a way for KMC members to ask a question or express a concern on the policies and procedures of the base, as well as discuss safety and security issues.
