“Biking Skating Hiking” will be the motto of the 23rd Family Day in Appelbach Valley Sunday. The road from Wuerzweiler to Pfaffen-Schwabenheim will close to motorized traffic for a car-free adventure day.

Participants can enjoy the 30-kilometer car-free route with little altitude difference from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The official opening will be at 10 a.m. in Pfaffen-Schwabenheim. Here, visitors can watch horse demonstrations and dog training and listen to brass music.

In each village along that road, restaurants, associations and clubs will offer an entertaining program and culinary specialties such as fried potatoes with ham and eggs, large and mini schnitzel with french fries, steaks, bratwurst, salmon in beer dough, smoked trout, boiled beef with horseradish, gnocchi with mushroom sauce, salad with chicken strips and homemade plum cakes and waffles.

Children can jump on bouncy castles, play games, ride ponies and get their faces painted.

Event participants can also explore churches and historical sites such as the monastery in Pfaffen-Schwabenheim, the castle ruins in Neu-Bamberg and the Jewish cemetery and former synagogue from the 19th century in Muensterappel.

A bikers worship service will be conducted at 10 a.m. in Muensterappel.

Bicycle service stations will be set up in Neu-Bamberg and St. Alban.

Bikers, hikers and skaters can stop at the information stands in Wuerzweiler, Muensterappel and Neu-Bamberg to get stamps and win prizes.

Photographers can turn in their best photos of the event until Sept. 30. The best photo picked by an official will be used on next year’s event flyer.

Collected stamps and photos can be sent to Touristinfo, Bezirksamtstrasse 7, 67806 Rockenhausen.

The starting point in the south of the route, Wuerzweiler, is located northeast of Rockenhausen and east of Alzey, and Pfaffen-Schwabenheim, in the north of the car-free road, is located east of Bad Kreuznach.
