Editor’s Note: During the coming months, the KA will profile fitness centers in the KMC. Be sure to check the sports section regularly for the skinny on how to use local fitness centers to shape up.

The lowdown:
The Kleber Fitness Center and Gymnasium is home to the Kaiserslautern Panther Community Basketball team. The gym is the sight for all garrison boxing events and racquetball tournaments. The fitness center is in a separate building, located less than a softball throw from the gym, and it offers all the necessary equipment for a full-body workout without the fuss, said Jason Ille, the facility’s manager. “Kleber allows one to come in and get the workout desired without any hassles,” he said.

Servicemembers from all military branches work out at the gym since Kleber Kaserne is the site for the Medical Transition Detachment, with PT times at 6 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. These are the peak hours for the gym and fitness center, said Ille.

The gear:
The Kleber gym has a basketball and three racquetball courts. The Kleber fitness center has a full-equipped cardio room with seven treadmills, nine elliptical trainers, four stair climbers and seven stationary bikes. No sign-ups are required for use of equipment. It has a free-weight room filled with life-fitness and body-master equipment and four abs machines.

The activities:
Kleber offers a variety of classes in the gym from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, its Aerobics. Tuesday and Thursday, its spinning, and Friday is reserved for Power Yoga. Like all Army KMC fitness centers and gymnasiums, Kleber offers towel service.

One must-know fact:
All three racquetball courts have viewing areas so that fans, friends and family can watch the action.
