In June 1948 the Soviet Forces blocked all transit routes, railways and waterways leading to West Berlin. Shortly after, the Allied Forces began an airlift to fly in supplies, which ended on May 12, 1949. The photo shows a U.S. aircraft at Tempelhof airfield. Photo courtesy of Timetoast.com
