KULTURSOMMER RHEINLAND-PFALZ (CULTURAL SUMMER)

Every year the Cultural Department of the State of Rheinland-Pfalz presents a Cultural Summer with a wide range of events. The opening will take place on May 12 in Trier. The city center will turn into on giant open-air stage. There will be theater, art, street acts and music, workshops and games in front of the Basilica. Under the motto “Compass Europe – Let’s go West” there will be bands and theater groups from Luxembourg, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Scotland. A Fringe Theater Festival will take place at Kornmarkt with a circus, physical theater and walking acts. Almost all events are free of cost and outside. Thursday, May 18 is Ascension Day, a holiday with a religious background. It is also known as German “Fathers Day”, so you may encounter groups of young men wandering around with wagons full of supplies. All stores and public holidays are closed in honor of the occasion.

The city of Saint-Avold is exited to announce that they will be holding a 40th anniversary celebration of twinning with the U.S. city of Fayetteville, North Carolina. There are numerous events planned for American Week, including parades, concerts, a miss pin-up contest, and a celebration of the twinning of the cities. The ceremony will be May 26 at 6 p.m. at the city hall, the parade, pin-up contest and concert on May 27. A Memorial Day celebration will be held at the cemetery on May 28, 11 a.m. Come down and celebrate this event in the beautiful France countryside.
