***image3***In celebration of Black History Month, Kaiserslautern American High School students took an artistic approach.

Students in Tom Burriss’ Studio Art class creatively showcased their talent by contributing artwork for display at KAHS. The display, in front of the main office at KAHS, holds valuable art and literature contributed by Sagirah and Michael Roots.

“The significance of African-American art is two-fold: It provides a visual representation of the uniqueness of the African-American experience and it provides documentation of, and witnessing to, the struggles, triumphs and everyday experiences of African-Americans,” Mr. Roots said.

Mr. Roots, a licensed clinical social worker and certified addictions counselor at KAHS, said he celebrates his African-American heritage as  part of his daily life, bringing awareness through the arts.

Principal of KAHS, Dr. Jennifer Beckwith, reinforced the importance of celebrating Black History Month to staff and students.
