This year’s KMC Independence Day celebration, “The Rockin’ 2nd,” takes place from 2 p.m. to midnight July 2 at Kapaun Air Station. The event includes musical entertainment, children’s activities, carnival rides, food specialties, prizes and a fireworks display.

During the celebration, children can enjoy bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round, pony rides and bouncy castles. Games include darts, a fishing game, ping pong, and many more. There will also be band performances by Los Nicos, Ton-Sport and Sheerocks.

Private organizations will set up food booths offering a variety of popular food and drink items.

“Due to safety issues, we are asking visitors not to bring alcohol, coolers or glass. We anticipate it will be very hot and pets will not be allowed in the main fest area or on the shuttle buses,” said Jade Muench, Community Services Flight chief.
The firework show is scheduled to start around 10:30 p.m.

Vogelweh Housing residents are encouraged to walk to the festivities on Kapaun or use gate Golf 1. Non-housing residents will not be allowed to park in the housing area. Main parking will be in the big parking lot by vehicle registration but will be
limited this year due to various construction sites on Kapaun.

Due to limited parking at the event, there will be a free shuttle service located at the Northside Chapel parking lot on Ramstein.

Shuttle buses will start at 1:30 p.m. and will run continuously until 1 a.m. You must be an ID cardholder to use the shuttle bus service. We are encouraging other participants or Ramstein residents to shuttle to the event or to carpool, if possible.

“We recommend that visitors enter through Vogelweh’s main gate. Our visitor center will process visitors faster than Pulaski, three to five minutes compared to a 15 to 20 minute wait time at Pulaski,” said Tech. Sgt. Gary Grymonprez, 569th U.S.
Forces Police Squadron training NCOIC.

Be prepared to have to walk moderate distances. Polizei will be enforcing a ticket and towing policy for unauthorized parking on federal street B40/L395 and B270.
The event is open to all ID cardholders.
