Lautern comes into blossom

Kaiserslautern will say goodbye to winter Saturday by turning the streets in the center of town into a colorful spring world. The advertising association “Kaiser in Lautern” will sponsor “Lautern comes into blossom” to celebrate the beginning of spring from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Members of the association, stores, restaurant and pub owners, as well as various institutions will present a diversified program to entertain and lure costumers. They will ask people to take part in a variety of actions and enjoy special offers.
Entertainment, information and activity booths will lure families to the center of town.

“All participants thought of great activities to start spring,” said Alexander Hess, the “Kaiser in Lautern” manager. “This is the right way to get into the right mood for spring after such a hard winter.”

Traditionally, a pyramid made of primroses will be set up on Altenhof, and an Easter tree created by local kindergarten children will welcome spring at the corner of Fackel- and Marktstrasse.

The advertising association will distribute more than 7,000 primroses to visitors. To celebrate its 175th anniversary, the Kreissparkasse bank will give away 1,750 primroses and present musical entertainment.

Shops that are members of “Kaiser in Lautern” will offer children’s activities, including a balloon artist next to the giant ball fountain on Riesenstrasse, special services such as the measuring of veins and the repair of porcelain, and presentations of the latest fashion.

Two marching bands, Lazy Toungs and the Blümchen Jazz Band, will entertain the people in the streets, and the Rodenbach Music Association will play from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Altenhof, to be followed by music presented by the Anklung-Gruppe of the Kaiserslautern Life Support Association.

The city’s ecological program will create a barefoot path in front of Stiftskirche, the Kaiserslautern zoo will set up a petting zoo in front of the Union-Kino on Kerstrasse, and local car dealers will show off their latest vehicles.

Like every Saturday, parking is free, except for in parking garages.
