Man on the street

Based on your experience living in Germany, what is one piece of advice you would give newcomers moving to the KMC?

Robert M. Helferich “I’ve been here 40 years, and I’d tell anyone who came here and was considering living here permanently to weigh the options and look at all the benefits, or the benefits they might lose, by becoming a German citizen. It’s a lot to consider from both sides, and it requires a lot of thought.”

Kurt Raducha “Don’t be scared if you don’t speak the language. Get out, travel and experience the culture. It’s easier than you think. And don’t forget to bring Euros!”

Tech. Sgt. Kevin Bennett “This is a place with a highway system that lets you go as fast as you want in certain areas and there are no slowdown areas, where in other places you would have to pay tolls. Take advantage of that while you are here.”

Staff Sgt. Edis Rodriguez-Hernandez “People who come here and are in temporary lodging shouldn’t rush out and buy a certain phone or internet service. They should wait to make sure (you know) what companies have the best signal in the village or place where they choose a home.”

Tech. Sgt. Elizabeth Montanez-Hearne “The (Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation) One Stop shop at Landstuhl is very laid back and a wonderful place to get answers on questions, sign up for activities for your kids or for adults, get VAT forms and many other things. People who arrive should check out that place as one of the first things they do.”

Sgt. 1st Class Mark M. Murphy “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most people who come here, and the best advice is to enjoy it to the fullest while you are living in Germany. There is so much to see and do, and you need to see as much as possible in the time you are here.”
