Events

» Join the Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program for the Purple Gala to raise awareness about domestic violence. This year’s theme is “All people working together can end domestic abuse.” Speak up and be part of the solution. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 21 at Armstrong’s Club on Vogelweh Housing, Bldg. 1036. Come together for a great cause, hear inspirational speeches by local representatives and wear purple to promote domestic violence awareness. Semiformal dress is required, no military uniforms. Child care will be available through the Landstuhl Child Development Center Parents’ Night Out for $16 per child. Space is limited; register in advance. Armstrong’s Club Events

Armstrong’s Club is located in Bldg. 1036 on Vogelweh Family Housing. Call 0631-354-9986 for details. Unless otherwise stated, events have no cover charge and are open to all ID cardholders and their guests, 18 and over.

» Oktoberfest Party: 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. The pub will transform into a Bavarian atmosphere in honor of the traditional German festival. Enjoy pretzels, specials and great hits from a live DJ. Dirndls and Lederhosen are encouraged, but not required.

» A Taste of Germany: 5 p.m. every Monday at Castello’s Snack Bar inside of Armstrong’s Club. Indulge in traditional and delicious German meals for $5 per plate. The meals vary each week; menus available at www.kaiserslautern.armymwr.com.

» Small Tab Tuesdays: 5 to 10 p.m. every Tuesday play a game of pool or pick your favorite jam on the jukebox while enjoying specials.

» Trivia Wednesdays: 6 to 10 p.m. every Wednesday.

» Throwback Thursdays: 7 p.m. every other Thursday, listen to hits from the ’80s, ’90s and today.

» Karaoke Fridays: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. every Friday show off your singing skills and socialize in a fun environment.

» Latin Saturdays: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. every first and third Saturday of the month.

» Texas Hold ’em: 8 p.m. to midnight every Friday. Buy-in is $25. Register and buy-in by 7 p.m.

» Country Night: 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturdays. Dance lessons take place from 7 to 9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge.

» Sunday Bingo: 3 p.m. every Sunday. Doors open at 1 p.m. Bingo packs start at $30. Prizes will be based upon participation. Play the progressive game for a chance to win up to $10,000.

» USA Jobs Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today and Sept. 30 on Pulaski Barracks, Bldg. 8280. Want to learn more about finding a government job? Get the one-up on competition with hands-on instruction and assistance from an Employment Readiness expert. RSVP required. » 10 Steps to a Federal Job takes place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Kleber Kaserne, Bldg. 3210. This class provides information and tips regarding the federal hiring system. » The U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Kazabra Club on Vogelweh, Bldg. 2057. This job fair will allow job seekers to make contact with employers who have positions to fill. Department of Defense contractors and government agencies will be present. Support Groups

» Single Parent Support Group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of every month. Join Family Advocacy Program for this educational class to examine services and tools that will aid in successful parenting. Feel free to bring a lunch. » Dads 101: A Crash Course for New and Expecting Dads meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the third Tuesday of every month. This is a class for dads, by dads. Learn from experienced dads in this informational class. Topics include preparing for fatherhood, surviving the first few weeks, caring for your new baby, ways to keep your baby safe and more. » Comfort Measures and Relaxation for Childbirth takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month. Bring a partner or friend, water and wear comfortable clothes. Topics include: massage and acupressure, positions for labor, use of tools such as the birth ball, meditation and focusing techniques, aromatherapy, and hot and cold therapies. » An Emergency Placement Care informational meeting takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month on Kleber Kaserne, Bldg. 3210. Classes and Training

» Conversational German courses are offered in two levels: beginner and intermediate. Participants will gain a better understanding of the written and verbal German language. All course materials are provided to students free of charge. Classes run in eight-week semesters. Advanced registration is required as this class often fills up fast. Baumholder Events

» Host Nation Orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Sept. 30 at the ITC building on Smith Barracks, Bldg. 8660. This class is mandatory for Soldiers, but spouses are welcome to attend. Learn about German culture and customs in this hands-on, community-oriented program. Bring Euro for lunch. » Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is offering free vehicle safety checks as part of the Winter Safety Day event from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 12. Mechanics will spend a minimum of 10 minutes per vehicle and review all components to ensure that your vehicle can properly pass an inspection and to better prepare you for winter driving. Open to ID cardholders with a U.S. Army Europe-plated vehicle. No registration is required, just swing by Automotive Skills Center with your vehicle for a free safety check. » The Book Buddies program takes place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The program helps children improve their literacy skills by teaming up with a dog to read books. The dogs are registered volunteer animals that have been trained and are great listeners. Open to children ages 5 to 12 years old. » Stump Trivia Night is held at 8 p.m. every Friday at Pinsetters Pub at Strikers Bowling Alley on Smith Barracks, Bldg. 8105. Compete solo or in a group and test your trivia skills for a chance to win a prize. Stump Trivia is a live-hosted knowledge-based event. Get your team, up to five people max, to test your skills at an assortment of questions from anatomy and science to literature and movies to history and sports.
