U.S. Air Forces in Europe unveiled a program called Air Force Bandstand in December. The program, utilized through www.usafband.com, allows streaming music and Air Force news to be delivered to government computers.

Normally, Web sites with streaming media are prohibited on government computers, as many sites degrade valuable bandwidth used to support a variety of mission needs. Also, commercial streaming media has a higher potential to introduce malicious logic and other threats to the USAFE network.

However, USAFE’s policy of “denying all and then allowing by exception,” allows Air Force leaders, as on this occasion, to select content essential to morale and mission accomplishment while ensuring a healthy network.
