***image1***The RAF Ramstein Rogues Rugby Football Club traveled to Trier recently and bagged second place in the Rheinland-Pfalz Spring Season opening tournament.

The Rogues were first onto the pitch to challenge the eventual tournament winners from Rugby Club Luxembourg, a Division-II team.  The Ramstein crew put up a sound defensive posture against the more ‘seasoned’ players of RCL.

The opposition scored early in the match leading up to a score of 10-0 at halftime.  The Rogues’ Kenton Lewis responded in the second half, bursting through the charge to put points up for Ramstein. Eric Grace kicked the conversion, procuring more points on the board.  The Rogues kept RCL in check, but their efforts to gain an advantage were firmly rebuffed. However, the Rouges also refused RCL’s cracks at a score and the end tally was 10-7 to RCL.

Ramstein led the next game against the local rugby team from Kaiserslautern, which ended in RAF Ramstein’s favor, 26-0.
Jason Martin, Eric Grace, Trent Armstrong and Jon McDonald each gained an advantage with ball control and drive. Golden toe ‘Smoov Grace,” completed three of four conversions.

The final game, which was also for second place, pitted Ramstein against Trier. The Rogues were prepared for the match, as they had watched Trier’s playing style during the tournament. Jesus Ramos, Eric Grace and Trapper Skrypek each scored after powering through the crease. Trier was only successful in one attempt of a reckoning in the second half, and at the whistle, it was RAF Ramstein 17, Trier 7.

The tournament was open to all teams of RP rugby (Trier, Mainz, Kaiserslautern, Worms, Andernach, and Ramstein) and an additional invitation was sent to Luxembourg Rugby for their participation.
Some firsts for the tournament were Ramstein zulu-warriors Trent Armstrong, and Joe Hoehn (an augment player for RCL) who scored their first tries ever in rugby.  Shane Carter was recongnized for outstanding scrum-half skills, and Man of the Match accolades were awarded to Jason Martin for superior skills as hooker for the Ramstein scrum.  The team is looking for more players, anyone interested in joining RAF Ramstein Rugby can contact the club at ramsteinrogues@hotmail.com.
