***image1***Master Sgt. George Jumara, base graphics NCOIC, recently took second place in the Military Graphic Artist of the Year competition.

MILGRAPH, a Department of Defense-level annual awards program, is designed to recognize and reward military graphic artists for their work in the military graphic arts community. Operating under the aegis of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and administered by the Commandant of the Defense Information School, the competition is judged by professional graphic artists and multimedia specialists from nationally acclaimed art institutes and design studios outside the military environment and is intended to promote excellence and professionalism in the military graphics arts and multimedia community. This category consists of books, handbooks, newsletters, programs, etc. involving multiple page layouts incorporating text, graphics and photos.

Sergeant Jumara’s entry was the 2006 Safety Calendar designed for the USAFE Safety Directorate. His original cartoon illustrations depict the monthly topics for USAFE’s Project SMART, reinforcing the importance of “safety in all we do.”
