Everyone is welcome to attend.

• The Böblingen Elementary/Middle School School SAC has two vacant parent representative positions for the upcoming school year.

Interested parents are invited to send nominations via e-mail. Send a brief personal introduction, statement of interest and relevant biographical details to BEMS.SAC@googlemail.com by April 30.

Elections will take place by secret e-mail ballots during the first week in May.

The BEMS SAC meets once a month and regularly discusses a wide range of topics, including school policies and facilities, educational resources, parental communication, community outreach, curriculum standards, student safety and transportation.

Most of the issues are solved at the local level. Some recent actions and proposals resulting from SAC discussions include:

• Continuation of the Spanish Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) program through fifth grade

• Middle school curriculum enrichment initiatives, both inside the classroom (visits by military speakers on special topics; science showcase) and outside (field trips)

• School website enhancement, pending a DODDS-Europe test project to centralize and standardize school website management, with special focus on timely and relevant updates during the summer season in preparation for the beginning of the school year

• New school construction plans

• Re-zoning of street parking in front of the school

• Changes in school facilities to accommodate school population growth.
