Science Buddies end year with creative projects

For the last few weeks, Nancy Hoehn’s Kaisers-lautern Middle School eighth grade science classes have been working on a project called “Science Buddies.”

In the beginning, not one student (that I know of) was really into it. We thought it would be another project that was boring and had no point. We did as our teacher told us and found an animal or scientific concept that we really enjoyed. Then we were to write and practice a script over and over again until it was perfect. From there, we gathered material for our costume and created an outfit that looked like our animal or scientific concept.

A scientific concept that most kids really enjoyed was Christin McLendon’s ice cream presentation. Who does not love ice cream?

Another presentation that most kids loved was by Robert Grant. He took an approach from a different look; Robert (also known as Marquise) made a rap that gave information in a weird, yet fun way.

Also, there were other animals. Kelsi Kotulan and Scott Cox did dinosaurs in a play, Adam Franz did turtles and Andre Buchanan-Dempsey and Mackenzie Bradley did penguins. Also, there were other animals such as ferrets, geckos, bobcats and many more.

It was an event you should not have missed! Animals and scientific concepts are only fun to learn if in a way that is interesting. If the eighth- graders were to sit on the floor without a costume and without knowing anything about that animal, it would have been boring. All the presentations were wonderful!

Science Buddies was awesome and I think everyone had fun – even the people who said they hated it! I think we should do Science Buddies every year.
