The most influential woman in my life . . .

***image1***The Women’s History Month Committee sponsored an essay writing contest for KMC youth in grades six to 12. More than 75 students wrote about “The Most Influential Woman in My Life.”

Here are excerpts from the winning essay by Joshua Newkirk, a senior at Ramstein American High School. He received a $100 U.S. Savings Bond.

“Your mother is doing the wrong thing. That’s what is being said about my mother’s decision to be stationed in Kuwait and many family friends proclaim that they raised their children better than my mother did . . .
. . . There is this preconceived notion that all men want to be like some rapper or some multi-billion dollar basketball player. I have never really looked up to ignorant idols in my life . . . The only role model I can recall through out my entire life is my mother . . .
. . . When people say they don’t think my mom did the right thing, I don’t have to say a word, because I am living proof that she did.”
