Attention ice-skating fans! A mobile ice-skating rink will be opened in Kaiserslautern officially starting Jan. 27. There will be curling events every Monday evening, interactive shows for children on Sundays and a Kinderfasching event on Feb. 13. Hot drinks, crepes and other snacks will be served in the adjacent “winter barn”, with free parking at Messeplatz and you can rent skates. Get active, turn a few pirouettes and join in the icy fun!

The largest Fasching parade in the region will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 13 this year. Traditionally, various groups from the KMC participate in the colorful fun along with local German and even French groups. Get a glimpse of the early years of U.S. presence in Kaiserslautern starting from the early 1950s. The housing area Fliegerstrasse and surroundings had typical kaserne buildings, but also living quarters for higher ranking officers right next to German neighbors. The exhibition is a cooperation between Stadtmuseum Kaiserslautern and Docu Center Ramstein and shows an array of old photographs along with interesting facts and figures.

FASCHING/KARNEVAL WEEKEND
FEB. 8 – 13, GERMANY-WIDE
Altweiberfasching (Old Wive’s) marks the beginning of the turbulent and colorful Fasching weekend. On Thursday women take over city halls and cut men’s ties. Dances and festivities take place on the weekend. On Rose Monday there will be large parades in Mainz, Cologne and Düsseldorf. The largest parade in the region will be on Tuesday, Feb. 13, usually with KMC participation at Ramstein starting at 2.11 p.m. Make sure to be there early and expect roadblocks and traffic delays.
