USAREUR extends benefits to same-sex spouses in Germany

by U.S. Army Europe Public Affairs

Effective Sept. 9, U.S. Army Europe is authorized to issue Status of Forces Agreement credentials and command sponsorship authorizations to eligible same-sex spouses assigned to or on orders to Germany.

Military and civilian personnel in same-sex marriages are now authorized to receive the same overseas benefits, entitlements and allowances in Germany as those currently authorized to spouses of military and civilian personnel in opposite-sex marriages.

Examples of such benefits include family travel, command sponsorship, a Status of Forces Agreement ID, government controlled quarters, off-post housing and other associated individual logistical support benefits as described in AER 600-700.
