The Agricultural Chamber of Rheinland-Pfalz and the city of Ramstein-Miesenbach sponsor a farmers’ market Sunday, in observation of Germany’s Thanksgiving Day.

The market is under the auspices of mayor Klaus Layes, who opens the market at 11 a.m. in the Haus des Bürgers after an ecumenical Thanksgiving service at 10:15 a.m.

The center of town is the stage for about 30 regional farmers and vendors who present their merchandise. There also will be entertaining programs and information booths about agriculture and agricultural products.

Farmers offer fresh products such as beef, lamb and pork meat, wurst, potatoes, fish specialties, dairy products such as yogurt, cheese and butter, jam, honey, eggs, pasta, pastries and bread. Vendors also can choose from a variety of pumpkins, corn, apples and apple products. There are liquors, schnapps, wines, cake and coffee.

Stores are open from 1 to 6 p.m.

The market features demonstrations of old craftsmanship such as shoe smithing, basket weaving, pottery, woodcarving and sheep shearing. An animal show presents chickens, pigeons, sheep, cows, calves, lambs, ponies, donkeys and rabbits. The Palatinate Tractor Club from Münchweiler displays historical tractors, and the Hach Riding Stable from Katzweiler offers children the chance to ride ponies and have their faces painted.

In the foyer of the town hall there will be a display on potatoes. Experts from the Service Center of the Rural Area Rheinpfalz and Westpfalz will talk about potatoes.

The Original Ramstein Street Musicians will provide musical entertainment in the streets.
