The tournament was played as a four-person team scramble, where players shot from the teams best lie. The tournament also had a few other twists to it. Each team carried a five-foot piece of string that affected their scorecard. When all team players missed a putt, they measured the distance to the closest ball and cut that length off their string. This allowed for the putt to count as a made shot. Each player was also allowed two mulligans or re-dos.

“When you’re playing a tournament with strings, mulligans and throws you have to use them judiciously,” said Rob Hurst, who played on the winning team.

The top four teams received cash prizes at the end of the tournament. First place received $65, second place $45, third place $35 and fourth place $30.

The first place team, which won with a score of 48, consisted of Hurst, Bill Gurr, Justin Rihard and James Stapleton.

“Everyone on our team had a major contribution at one point or another in the tournament,” said Hurst. “The outstanding condition of the golf course also was a reason for our victory.”
The golfers couldn’t have asked for better weather or for better customer service. With temperatures in the 70s, golfers had a steady supply of beverages and food.

“The weather was unbeatable, the golf course did a fantastic job, customer service was great and the food was awesome,” said Hurst.

The next tournament at Woodlawn Golf Course will be the Rally for a Cure Golf Tournament sponsored by the Women’s Woodlawn Golf Associtation June 9. Proceeds will benefit breast cancer research. Call Audrey Reiter at 06372-99-5929 for more details.
