Commander’s Action Line

***image1***Issue:
I am continually amazed at how fast people drive in the parking area at the Ramstein North Side Post Office. The 5 MPH speed limit is ignored. Lack of enforcement of the posted speed limit contributes to this phenomenon. It is just a matter of time before pedestrians are struck in this lot.

Response:
Speeding is an issue at many locations on Ramstein AB. In order to counter this problem, the 568th Security Forces Squadron focuses their efforts on various problem areas throughout base, and yes, the North Side Post Office has its issues. The speed limit is actually 15 KPH and since the beginning of 2005, our Security Forces have issued over 900 tickets for a variety of moving violations. We are also working with German Polizei in order to use their automatic speed measuring devices installed at key locations on base. Through enforcement of the 15 KPH speed limit in all Ramstein parking lots, we hope to provide for a safer area for our pedestrians.
As always, if you witness a traffic infraction and wish to make a formal complaint, please report to Bldg. 2371 on Ramstein. Security forces will assist you in accomplishing a written statement which will be forwarded to the commander of the vehicle owner.
Remember, there are several key pieces of information that are needed to accomplish an effective statement, such as the license plate number, description of the vehicle and driver along with the time, date and location the incident occurred.
