Fire prevention month

Throughout the month of October, Ramstein Fire Department firefighters visited events at schools, the Child Development Center and in the local community to share valuable fire safety tips. This year’s message was “Stay Fire Smart. Don’t Get Burned.”

Sembach Elementary School, Ramstein Elementary School and Ramstein Intermediate School were briefed on fire safety rules and the students were allowed to run through a smoke house, where they learned the importance of staying down low under smoke, having two means of escape, not to hide from firefighters and to never go back inside a burning house.

Vogelweh Elementary School was also given a mass briefing about staying fire smart. The students learned five basic rules: never play with fire; stop, drop and roll; to get down low under smoke; to feel the door for heat; and to remember that firefighters are friends and to never hide from them.

At Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School, Sparky the Fire Dog, with the help of a real fire truck, visited the students to provide them with fire safety rules and demonstrate firefighting gear and all the equipment on the fire truck.
