Over 80 students participate in the club each year which runs from September to June, competing in local German and DoDEA tournaments. The club has been coached by W. Department of Defense Education Activity EuropeEast-District Schools’ is holding its 7th Annual, K-12 Open Invitational Spring Chess Tournament, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 4 at Kaiserslautern Elementary School. Contact Jack Woodfork at jack.woodfork@eu.dodea.edu for the pre-registration form, rules, and other details.  Tournament-day registration will run from 8:20 to 9:20 a.m. followed by rules of play and key information. Tournament-play starts at 10 a.m. with the awards presentation running from noon to 12:30 p.m.  First- and second-place trophies will be awarded to the top two players per group. And ribbons will awarded to all players according to their standing. A group or team will consist of three to six players. There is also a €5 (or $6) entrant fee payable upon the day of the tournament.
