Books and Bears
Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School hosts Books and Bears: Family Fun with Literacy from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11. Parents can attend up to six different age- and grade-appropriate workshops geared toward understanding literacy and how to help students improve and expand their reading skills. Students will also attend their own workshops. Activities include story telling, word games and reading-related arts and crafts. Parents and students are encouraged to bring a brown bag dinner, or hot dogs, juice and fruit can be purchased for $1.

Scholarships now available
The 2009 ROSC scholarship applications are now available. The scholarship is open to all command-sponsored Kaiserslautern military or Department of Defense dependents. Deadline for submission is Feb. 20. To pick up an application and to get all the details, see a high school guidance counselor, the education center or visit www.ramsteinosc.org/scholarships.htm.

STAP applications due
Spouse Tuition Assistance Program applications are due by close of business Feb. 20 to room 416 in Bldg. 2120 on Ramstein for classes for Term 4 (March 22 to May 30). STAP is open to command-sponsored spouses of active-duty Air Force members. STAP will pay up to one-half of the unmet tuition cost up to $300 per term. STAP can only be used with the contracted programs: Central Texas College, Embry Riddle, University of Maryland, University of Oklahoma and University of Phoenix.

Graduation deadline nears
The deadline to graduate in the spring for CCAF is Feb. 27. CCAF must receive all documentation for degree candidate submissions on or before this date to be considered for the April 2009 class. The spring 2009 graduation will take place at the Ramstein Officers’ Club April 24. For more information, call the Ramstein Education Center at 480-2032.

Earn a bachelor’s in nursing
The U.S. Air Force Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program offers active-duty enlisted personnel the opportunity to earn a nursing bachelor’s degree and become commissioned. NECP selects must attend an AFROTC detachment with tuition and fees less than $15,000 a year. The suspense date for notification of intent to apply is Feb. 23. The suspense date for submitting the completed application is April 20. For more information about eligibility and academic requirements and the application package, call the Ramstein Education Center at 480-2308.

Diploma deadline next month
The diploma application deadline for the May 2009 University of Maryland graduation is Feb. 15. The University of Maryland commencement ceremony will be held May 9 in Heidelberg at the Village Pavilion in Patrick Henry Village.
