Team Ramstein celebrates AF milestone

Col. Rich Johnston
KMC and 86th Airlift Wing commander

***image1***This September, the Air Force will kick
off a year-long celebration of our Air Force’s 60th anniversary year.
To mark this milestone, Ramstein will host a 60th Air Force Anniversary
Kick-off Concert Sept. 8 at Donnelly Park at 6 p.m.  KMC members will
have the incredible opportunity to come out and enjoy the celebrations
with the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band, food and fun.
We will also be celebrating our Air Force heritage at the 2006 Air
Force Ball Sept. 23 at the Ramstein Officers’ Club.  This year’s theme
is, “Chronicles of the past…59 years of faithful service.”
This year’s ball will be a bit different than those in the past.  We
will have a short formal ceremony where we will cut the Air Force
birthday cake, and then attendees will be able to circulate through
four themed rooms: contingency operations, humanitarian operations,
aircraft and aircraft maintenance and mission support.  Each of the
rooms will have its own music, featuring the USAFE Band or a deejay, as
well as various spreads of food. Tickets are available through unit
representatives, or by contacting your First Sergeant.
These Ramstein events and others throughout the year will give us all a
chance to come together and celebrate our history.  I am constantly
amazed when I think of the numerous accomplishments Team Ramstein has
made in the nearly five months I have been here.  Ramstein was named
the best installation in the U.S. Air Force, received an excellent in
the first operational readiness inspection in nine years, and is
continually deployed to support operations across the globe.
Recently, Team Ramstein also shone in an operation that facilitated the
safe departure of more than 1,800 American citizens from Lebanon.
As the U.S. Air Force celebrates its 59th anniversary, one thing is
certain:  our Air Force’s future is in great hands with the talented,
motivated and world-class Airmen I serve with every day.
