Training takes us to back roads

***image1***Everybody who is a part of the 1st Combat Communications Squadron goes through a Combat Readiness Course that provides training to Airmen to prepare them for deployments.

The favorite part of the training is when we learned how to drive and conduct multiple convoy maneuvers. Not everyone gets a chance to train on how to drive large vehicles through different types of terrain, which is exactly what we were about to do.

We lined up the Humvee and five-ton trucks for a drive through the base and out the gate to the off-road course. The five-hour training course was full of challenging paths that led up and down steep hills and through deep-water fords, while maintaining control of the vehicle at all times. We then cleaned and readied the vehicles for their next trip, exercise, TDY or deployment.

The training is essential for our shop that must be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. Since January 2007, the squadron has deployed more than 800 people to 33 countries.

After everything was said and done, it was just another typical day here at the 1st Combat Comm’s Airfield Systems shop.
