March is the month to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. In the Pfalz area, several towns and villages observe various traditions to do that. One tradition is to “burn winter,” and another one is to have summer-day parades and perform summer-day plays.

Bad Duerkheim on the German Wine Street will offer a special shopping night 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The center of town will be immersed in special lights. Light cones, up to 10-meters high, glowing snails and fantasy figures in changing colors will decorate the streets around Roemerplatz and Stadtplatz. Skybeamers will illuminate the night sky.

The running division of the sports club TSG 1861 Kaiserslautern will sponsor the 35th Half Marathon Run March 20 in Kaiserslautern. The German-American and International Women’s Club Kaiserslautern recently celebrated its 60th anniversary and is sponsoring its annual Pfennig Bazaar March 4 to 6 in the event hall of the Kaiserslautern Gartenschau.
