Legend says that Valentine of Terni, a friendly priest, who married young couples in love, died Feb. 14, 269. That’s why today, Valentine’s Day is being observed Feb. 14. In many countries all over the world, Sunday is the day, when husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends have romantic dinners, give gifts, candy, cards and flowers to show their love and affection.
Ever since 1990 on the Saturday after Fasching, the community of Olsbruecken observes a special tradition: the burning of winter. The hiking club Pfaelzerwaldverein will co-sponsor this annual event and offer celebrations at their forest hut.
Fasching is reaching its peak. Throughout the weekend, Rose Monday and Fat Tuesday, Fasching dances, fun sessions, masquerade balls, children’s parties and parades are taking place.

Fasching, Germany’s fifth season or crazy season, is reaching its peak. Parties, dances and other Fasching activities will continue until Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10.
The fifth season, also known as Fasching, is in full gear, and many Fasching parties and dances are scheduled to take place through Feb. 9. The Westpfalz Police Headquarters in Kaiserslautern wants all motorists to make it through that time without any accidents or alcohol-related problems.
